Positronic's Create a Part Number tool is designed to provide a fast, intuitive way to generate a Positronic connector part number configured with the features you need. When you have finished creating your part number, use it to search for drawings and 3D models, print the details of your selection, or add the part number to My List to send a product inquiry.

Here is a brief, step by step guide to creating a part number, followed by details about the role of each panel in the tool's interface.

Creating a part number, step by step

1. Choose your first option: Once you have made it to the Create a Part Number interface (reached by choosing "Create a Part Number" in any product section on the site), you should be ready to select an option for the first part number segment/step. Drag an option from the options panel and drop it in the highlighted area of the selection panel. See the details of the selection panel for instructions on special product series.
    
2. Navigate to a new step: Use a part number segment in the summary panel or the "Next" and "Prev" buttons in the selection panel to change your current step.
    
3. Complete all steps: Choose an option in the new step just as you did for the first. Continue navigating to each step of the part number and choose an option for each, until the entire part number is complete.
    
4. Edit any selections: The quick interface allows you to easily change the option you've selected in any step, at any time. Use the buttons in the selection panel, or go straight to one of your selected options using the part number segment in the summary panel. Use the drag-and-drop interface to remove your selection or replace it with a new option.
5. Use your completed part number: With your completed part number, use the control buttons in the summary panel to search for drawings/models, submit a product inquiry with My List, or review and print your selections.
    

Using the summary panel

The summary panel shows the progress you have made toward finishing your part number, allows navigation between part number steps, and provides controls to make use of you completed part number.

• Part number segments

  

  The segments of the part number (or "steps" of the creation process) are represented by small boxes positioned side by side in this panel. The segments will be filled with the appropriate part number code for your selections as you complete each step. Placing your mouse over a part number segment will give you details about which step is represented and your current selection. Clicking on any segment will navigate to that step in the selection and options panels.

• Control buttons

  

  These buttons are activated when your part number is complete and can be used to take the following actions:

  Drawing Search uses your part number to perform a search of our database for matching drawings and 3D models.

  Add to My List will add your part number to My List, Positronic's unique system for collecting and submitting inquiries to our sales staff. Once your part number is added to My List, you can specify requests for quotes/samples, as well as adding further part numbers, before submitting your inquiry. After adding a part number to My List, subsequent visits to Create a Part Number will begin a new number. The existing number can be retrieved using the "Edit" option on the My List summary page.

  Review All presents a simple, streamlined overview of your part number details, which can be easily printed.

• Reset

  

  If any options have been chosen for this part number, the "Reset" control will appear below the part number segments, allowing you to clear all selections with one click.

Using the selection panel

The selection panel shows information about the current part number step and the option(s) you have chosen.

Using special selection panels

• Step name

  

  The step name at the top of the panel indicates which connector feature is being chosen.

• The drop area

  

  Before you have made a selection in any part number step, an empty box in the center of the panel will be indicated as the drop area for your chosen option. Begin dragging an option from the options panel, and the drop area will be highlighted with a blue border. Drop the option here to select it.

• Selection details

  

  Once you've made a selection for the part number step, the drop area will now contain information about the option you have chosen. To remove your selection, simply drag the option away from the drop area. Alternately, you can click the option and then click the "Remove" button that appears.

• Navigation buttons

  

  The "Prev" and "Next" buttons will navigate to a different step in the selection and options panels.

Special selection panels

Steps in some connector series offer unique features, such as the ability to choose multiple options. Selecting options in these cases is done exactly as usual, by dragging each desired option to the selection panel.

As an example of advanced functionality, the Scorpion series allows the selection of multiple variant modules, displaying the complete face view of the connector instead of option details, and allowing modules to be dragged and arranged within the selection panel.

Using the options panel

The options panel presents the available options for the current part number step.

• Draggable options

  

  Scroll up or down within the options list to find the desired option for the current part number step. Simply drag an option from this area to the drop area of the selection panel to select it. Alternately, you can click the option and then click the "Select" button that appears.

  Once you've chosen an option (if the current step does not allow multiple selections), that option will be highlighted. To replace your selection with a different option, simply drag the new option to the selection panel in the same way, dropping it over the current selection.
