This page is intended to provide more information surrounding the two categories of RoHS compliance that are offered by Positronic — 1) RoHS 5 of 6 and; 2) RoHS 6 of 6. The following table compares the allowable limits of the six base restricted substances for each category.
|Substance||RoHS 5/6 Allowable Limit||RoHS 6/6 Allowable Limit|
|Mercury (Hg)||1000 ppm||1000 ppm|
|Cadmium (Cd)||100 ppm||100 ppm|
|Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)||1000 ppm||1000 ppm|
|Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB)||1000 ppm||1000 ppm|
|Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)||1000 ppm||1000 ppm|
|Lead (Pb)||40000 ppm||1000 ppm|
As you can see, the allowable limit of lead is what distinguishes 5/6 compliance from 6/6 compliance. This difference is explained by Exemption 6c within the RoHS directive, which allows up to 4% (40000 ppm) lead content in machinable alloys. Positronic offers nearly all products with RoHS 5/6 compliance. Select products can be purchased as 6/6 compliant. Contact Technical Sales for more information.
